Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has reiterated its ambition of taking over the tablet market with the unveiling a cheaper Surface Pro 3 tablet. The sixth model of the Surface Pro 3 tablet comes with a 1.7GHZ Core i7 processor with 8GB memory.
Processor Power Vs Storage Capacity
Where the other models come with 256GB or 512GB worth of storage capacity, the new Surface Pro Tablet comes with 128GB worth of space. The new model will go on sale for $1, 299 the same price as the 256GB Core i5 edition.
However, it comes with a microSD card slot with USB 3.0 port that people can use to boost their storage capacity. The unveiling of the cheaper model came on confirmation that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was in the process of introducing LTE Surface 3 models in Germany and the UK.
The new model is for people who would choose the power of a Core processor at the expense of a storage capacity. It also comes with more cache to store and read data as it can clock higher clock speed compared to the Core i5 version that runs on a ‘Turbo Boost.’
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) faithful’s should be buoyed by the addition of intel’s HD 5000 Integrated graphics processor on the new tablet expected to provide better graphics than the HD 44000 in the Core i5.
Surface Pro 4 in the Works
A tablet with less storage capacity makes a lot of sense as everything shifts to the cloud. Streaming services and cloud storage services have eliminated the need for being over-reliant on tablets internal storage capacity as everything moves to the cloud.
The cheaper model could be an indication that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is planning to unveil an upgrade to Surface Pro 3 which could be Surface Pro 4. September is the earliest that Microsoft could unveil Surface Pro 4 as people gear up to go back to school.
