Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced the release of Windows 10, the next generation operating system (OS) from the company. This much awaited version of Windows OS is scheduled for its global release this summer.
Terry Myerson (Executive Vice President, Operating Systems) shared the news while addressing the WinHEC summit at Shenzhen, China. He declared that Windows 10 will be released in 190 countries and will be made available in 111 languages. Although the exact date of release is not yet declared, Windows 10 has gathered much attention. The coveted OS seeks to bring groundbreaking changes to personal computing, particularly to shift its focus towards mobility.
WinHEC summit featured important discussions about the innovation of Windows 10 and the opportunities it will present to hardware and device manufacturers. Windows 10 will be provided as a free upgrade, for a period of one year after its release, to the customers having earlier versions of Windows, in particular, Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. Windows Hello (Microsoft Corporation’s latest global innovation) will provide biometric authentication to Windows 10. It is clear that this new OS will bring many new features with it.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has partnered with several leading companies in China to maximize the distribution of its OS. Lenovo, Tencent, Qihoo 360 and Xiaomi are the key partners. Lenovo will offer Windows 10 upgrade services at its 2500 service centers in China. Windows free upgrade pack will include popular games and QQ, an instant messenger widely popular in China, by Tencent. Qihoo 360 Technology Co. Ltd (NASDAQ:QIHU) will provide faster downloads of the upgrade.
A new program has been launched in cooperation with Xiaomi, the leading software manufacturer in China, to allow selected users of Xiaomi Mi 4 to test and contribute to Windows 10 through their smartphones. These users will be able to install the Windows 10 Technical Preview and provide feedback to Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT).
The massive efforts taken for Windows 10 by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) indicate the large investment in this project. Whatever may be the response to the new OS, one thing is certain that the computing world will begin its new era.
