Mercedes-Benz Concept A Sedan is introducing a whole new styling philosophy to small cars!

The real star of the Mercedes-Benz’s stand at Shangai Motor Show was hands down the S-Class line of updates however this concept is something special. This signals the start of a whole new line of products based on the company’s small car MFA2 architecture. This Concept A Sedan will put cars that will sit on the same underbody structure from the replacements of the A- and B-Class, the CLA, the GLA and few others which will include a convertible and a coupe on the production line. This concept car is only 2.76 inches shorter than the CLA which is produced at the moment however it has 1.18 inches lower roofline, and it is 3.66 inches wider.

Gorden Wagener (chief design officer) talked to the press and said: ‘Our Concept A Sedan shows that the time of creases is over!’ This clearly means that they adopted a new design philosophy. He then went on to add: ‘With its perfect proportions and a sensual treatment of surfaces with reduced lines, it is the next milestone of Sensual Purity and has the potential to introduce a new design era.’

Another significant difference from the CLE is that this car is just a bit more of a three-box sedan having a vertical treatment of its C-pillar which just shows that this concept simply has no intention of going from coupe to sedan. That line shall not be crossed. When it comes to overhangs the one on the back end is the game changer since it contributes to that difference in overall length of the car which is important when we compare old and new sedans however both overhangs are short still.

Another thing characteristic for this concept is a higher beltline with its design being emphasized by the introduction of AMG’s Panamericana grille which looks dangerous with its chromed bars combined with a pair of power domes on the hood.

When it comes to this car’s headlights, they have its grid structure coated with ultraviolet paint that glows in different colors. The colors change according to different lighting around them. For example, during the daytime lights will be white. The back has a diffuser look which was achieved by painting the bottom half of the bumper. Yes, it was that easy. The vehicle will also have a full-length panoramic glass roof and dark films for the windows. When it comes to wheels, the Mercedes Concept A Sedan will feature 20-inch alloys. A-pillar corners of the front windows are history because this Sedan’s side mirrors come out of the doors themselves.

The Recent growth of the company is a result of the popularity of compact cars. Sales have been going wild because of it, and that trend started in 2012 (globally sold more than 2 million cars since then).
