It is official – Mark Wahlberg has become the highest-paid actor putting Dwayne Johnson to the second place on the list. The famous actor has earned $68 million thanks to popular films such as Transformers: The Last Knight and Daddy’s Home 2, reports Forbes.
Dwayne Johnson had that title with the earnings of $65 million. The money came from his not-so-popular Baywatch, the upcoming Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and his HBO show called Ballers. However, some of his better movies are Fate of the Furious which also brought him substantial sums of money. His co-star Vin Diesel is trailing closely at the top of the list with $54.4 million, followed by Adam Sandler who earned $50.5 million due to his generous deal with Netflix. Jackie Chan is behind with $49 million.
The list shows a particular pattern and those who have played in superhero blockbusters earned the bucks. For example, Chris Hemsworth, better known as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe increased his earnings by 250 percent over the last year. Top 20 has a lot of new kids on the block such as Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and Ryan Reynolds. The first two actors got their fat paychecks from Marvel, whereas there are no details about Reynolds’ salary, but we can assume Deadpool is responsible for his high income.
Bollywood is also worth mentioning because three of the top 10 actors are coming from India – Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Top 20 highest paid actors earned a total of $720 million between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017, before fees for agents and taxes. These estimates are taken from ComScore, Nielsen, IMBD and Box Office Mojo, while the industry insiders also did some interviews and figure gathering.
Interestingly enough, there is a big difference between actors and actresses. The highest-paid actress is Emma Stone with $26 million of yearly income, according to Forbes list. This is significantly less than what top males in Hollywood earned. Stone would be in the bottom end of the top 20 list if we would mix up both genders. However, it is still a substantial amount of money, most of it coming from Oscar-winning La La Land.
Only three women went over the $20 million mark, while top ten females combined for $172.5 million, which is nothing compared to $488.5 top ten actors combine. Forbes reporter Natalie Robehmed wrote: “In release schedules dominated by superhero movies and brawny blockbusters, there are simply fewer parts for women that pay the sizeable back-end profits that result in leading men’s large paydays, or the franchise sequels that permit aggressive negotiation for favorable deals.”
