There have been four WWE champions already in 2017. AJ Styles has opened the year as the champ, but his reign in 2017 didn’t last long as he dropped the title to John Cena at the Royal Rumble PPV in what was an amazing match. Cena’s record-trying reign also didn’t last long. Elimination Chamber PPV took place just two weeks after the Rumble where Bray Wyatt won the title for the first time in his career.
Everybody expected that he is going to hold it for a long time, so the loss to Orton at Mania was even more surprising. Randy became a 13-time world champ and the 4th wrestler to hold the title in 2017. Now, Jinder Mahal is going to be the one to have a shot at winning the championship. Will he do it? If not him, who’s going to be the champ in 2017?
The first name that comes to our mind when it comes to the WWE title is Baron Corbin. The company has put Mahal in the title picture now as they want a heel in that spot. While Corbin would have been a great choice, the reports are saying that WWE is saving him for the bigger shows later in the year, for example – The Summerslam.
Another name that sticks out is AJ Styles. Right now, he is in the US title picture, but that could easily change later on this year. He has an amazing fan support and has all the tools to be a top babyface on Smackdown Live. He might be the one to win the title at the tale end of the year as the company might be planning a big showdown between Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles at next year’s Wrestlemania.
