Oscar-winning (finally) actor Leonardo DiCaprio now wants to direct a movie. Superhero movie to be more precise. This yet unnamed film would be about Captain Planet a superhero whose only purpose in life is to fight against “environmental evils”.
According to reports, it would be based on the TV series Captain Planet and the Planeteers that was aired from 1990 to 1992. The storyline would revolve around five teenagers from various parts of the world. They would be equipped with magic rings that have the power to control different natural elements. Combining their skills they would attain an ability to summon Planet Captain as mentioned above.
According to different news sources, the script will be written in cooperation between actor Glen Powell and his writing assistant Jono Matt. The story would begin years after the TV Series ended and would revolve around now washed-up former superhero Captain Planet. The situation would be reversed compared to TV Show, and Captain would be in bigger need of the children than they would be in need of him.
Production of Captain Planet
You are all familiar with the fact that outside acting and producing famous actor is involved with many organizations that are keen on saving the world and look out for our Planet. That’s why it comes as no surprise that Captain Planet will be first superhero movie produced by Appian Way Production which is owned by DiCaprio himself. Last Oscar winner recently visited London where he was promoting a documentary called Before the Flood. While at that he spent a lot of time in talk with scientist and activists from different branches. The main theme of these discussions was, of course, the dangers the climate change brings and the solutions to that problem.
Back to the Captain Planet, we can’t tell whether will Glen Powell (known to the public for his roles in TV series Scream Queens and most recently from Richard Linklater film Everybody Wants Some!!) star in the movie or will he just be in charge of the script. Other cast members have not yet been named so we will remain on the subject in search for more info.
