“Big Trouble in Little China” may be coming back but is Jack Burton?
A new sequel of the movie “Big Trouble in Little China” from 1986 is in the works by no one else than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, but it seems that Kurt Russell, who was the star in the original movie won’t have a part in the reboot of the action packed movie.
In the original movie that turned into a cult classic and comic book even though it flopped at the box offices Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) gets the girl (Kim Cattrall) and saves the day by defeating the villain in Chinatown of San Francisco.
The Rock and Russell have had the chance to collaborate before, in the “Fast and Furious” movies and Kurt has stated before that he is a fan of The Rock: “He’s just a really good guy. I like working with him and if he’s going to do it, he and his crew will hopefully be able to come up with something that I guess makes the title work.”
Russell did mention that he feels that it won’t be easy to do justice to the original movie, “which was very, very fresh at that time”. He also said that: “Nobody had ever done a leading man who didn’t realize he wasn’t the leading man. He behaves like the sidekick but doesn’t know that. That hadn’t been done and it was difficult for the studio to get around in terms of promoting it, too.”
Russell is currently starring in the Netflix original “The Christmas Chronicles” as Santa Claus.
He did say that he hopes for the best. “I always say the same thing, which is, well, you’ve got to make a good movie,” Russell figures. “I’ll still take the original ‘Mutiny on the Bounty.’
