Kurt Angle admitted that he had doubts surrounding Ronda Rousey’s debut at Wrestlemania. It wasn’t regarding her ability to perform at the biggest stage of them all. It was that he had worries if the crowd is going to accept her the right way. In the history of World Wrestling Entertainment, there weren’t many stars that had their debut match scheduled for Mania.
Angle was Ronda’s partner in a tag-team clash against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. A match they dominated from the beginning till the end. Former UFC champion was under a lot of pressure as many fans believed that she’s going to mess something up. But, she proved everyone wrong with a fascinating in-ring performance. With her moves, she brought fans to their feet, and the crowd was cheering her on and stood behind her during the duel.
Kurt Angle was praising her after WM stating that she was on a “seasoned veteran” level. Talking to USA Today, former Olympic Gold Medalist said: “Ronda was able to not only prove a lot of people wrong but, I mean, she stole the show. It was a great structure. Triple H and myself, we structured the match, but it was her that went out there and did it. She performed beyond our expectations.”
Ronda was doubted by fans, but it seemed there was also a shadow of doubt over her coming from her WWE colleagues. But, Kurt Angle played this down by stating: “We..We weren’t nervous that she was going to fail, we were just nervous that maybe the fans wouldn’t take to her the way they did. And they did – they took to her from the beginning, and she just got better as the match went on. Not only with her technique, but her facials, and the way she took her time.”
Ronda Rousey was the one who ended this match with an armbar. The next night on RAW she attacked Stephanie McMahon once again. The WWE has big plans for Rousey, and as it seems now, she will be able to carry them out.
