Based on 1995’s Jumanji fantasy adventure, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is an upcoming movie which is supposed to pay tribute to the late Robin Williams who played the main role in the original film. This time, the lead part was given to Dwayne The Rock Johnson, who has recently revealed how much Robin Williams meant to him and how deep his desire to pay tribute to him is.
The Rock said: “We wanted to make a movie that encapsulates what the holiday spirit really means — the spirit of wonderment and discovering who you are. I have such a tremendous amount of love and reverence for the original movie and what Robin meant to my family. I loved it like the world loved it. We wanted to make sure the spirit of the original movie flowed through this continuation of the Jumanji story.”
Furthermore, the actor added: “It was the opportunity that we had to introduce Jumanji to a whole new generation. Also, too, it was my personal way of really paying homage and respect to the one man who created the Jumanji magic, to begin with, Mr. Robin Williams.”
In case you don’t know much about the forthcoming sequel, according to Sony Pictures, this is the story of the movie: “In a brand new Jumanji adventure, four high school kids discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji – you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves – or they’ll be stuck in the game forever, to be played by others without break.”
In addition to Johnson, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will also star Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas. The film will hit theaters on December 20 this year.
