One of the biggest possible matchups that WWE can do with the guys that they have on their roster is the one where John Cena battles somebody that is supposed to be his successor, Roman Reigns. This duel is for sure going to happen in the future as it is a big money match, but the only question is when it is going to take place. Early reports were suggesting that Roman will go up against Lesnar at the biggest show of the year that WWE has in New Orleans in 2017, but those plans might change.
According to the newest reports, WWE might go with Lesnar vs. Reigns at Summerslam in order to make this show the biggest possible. The original plans were for Strowman to be in that match, but the injury caused the company to change their direction. Now, it seems that there is a good chance for us to see Reigns vs. Lesnar much earlier than we expected.
Of course, the company wants to have Reigns in a big match at the grandest stage of them all. The logical move, at least in their minds, is to have him battle Cena at Mania 34. That is the next big fight that Reigns is going to have after Brock Lesnar. It is actually not a question if the duel is going to happen, but when.
This is probably a better main event for many reasons. First of all, it is much less predictable. Second, it means that we are going to have the Universal Title on Monday Night Raw every week as there is no doubt that Roman is going to win it if he does face Lesnar at Summerslam. Main event scene is big on Raw and title needs to be there every week. That is why Cena vs. Reigns at Wrestlemania next year is actually a better matchup than the one that was originally reported.
