When the big shows like Wrestlemania or Summerslam come, WWE likes to put on huge matches where two of the largest superstars are going up against each other, battling for the supremacy in the company. There is no doubt that Cena is one of the greatest stars and biggest draws of all time. He was, and to many still is, the face of this company for over a decade now.
He has been in so many important matches that it is hard for the creative writers to put him in a feud that he hasn’t been in already. Now that he is getting up there in age and is not on TV every single night, Cena is working programs only with some of the biggest stars in the company.
The one guy that he still hasn’t feuded with is probably a guy that the organization sees as his replacement as the top babyface once Cena decides to end his wrestling career. The fans don’t see Roman as the next Cena, but Vince McMahon sure does, and he is trying to present him to the fans like that. One of the biggest matches that the company can do on any given occasion is Reigns vs. Cena. Recently, John was asked how does he feel about the Roman Empire and here is what he had to say, including a small tease that this match is going to happen.
“Roman is in the trenches every night and he’s performing at an elite level with a champion caliber attitude. His performance and the response that he gets from certain audiences is indicative of an elite-level performer. He’s doing what I did in 2006,2007 and 2008. He has all the justification in the world in saying it’s his yard. I’ve made a career of shutting the mouths from people who’ve made that claim that WWE was their yard. I very, very much look forward to the day we put that to the test.”
