Right now, there is no happier man in professional wrestling than Jinder Mahal. This dude is at the top of the world right now, feeling great after his win at Backlash enabled him to hold the WWE Championship for the first time in his career. After winning the big one at Backlash, he was reflecting on all the hard work that he put in to get in the position that he is in today.
The company brought him back as a jobber, a guy that is supposed to look tough and legit but would always lose matches since he is not the one that company wants to push. He was there just to get other talents over.
Just a couple of months later, Vince thought that there is an opportunity with Jinder Mahal going forward, so the plans were to start pushing him as the Indian market was one of the goals that Vince McMahon has set for the WWE. He won the six-pack challenge for the number one contender’s spot, which is important, but the big push continued when he beat Orton.
Just two months before he signed with the company, Jinder has revealed that the things were not looking great for him and his career. Here is what he had to say about the state of his shape and mind at the time.
“Actually, when I came back, I wasn’t in as good shape as I am in now. So just to backtrack a little bit, maybe about two months before I came back, like, I had hit rock bottom. I was dr*nking all the time and I was eating and not watching what I eat. I was actually like 260 lbs, just fat. I’m sure there are pictures of me just working the indies and not caring. And then, one day, I stopped dr*nking completely. I was like, ‘that’s it. I’m going to start getting in shape.”
