It’s not easy being Jerry Jones these days. He will have, what we believe, an unpleasant meeting with Dez Bryant on Friday. Before that, he gave a deposition on Thursday regarding Colin Kaepernick and his lawsuit against the league.
Jerry Jones gave his statement at Dallas Cowboys headquarters at Star in Frisco. Kaepernick, the former starting quarterback of San Francisco 49ers, was also present. He accused the owners of all 32 NFL teams that they are blackballing him due to his protesting campaign against racial injustice. The problem lies in the fact that his protest included kneeling during the national anthem.
Kaepernick started the protest in 2016, and he hasn’t played a snap in the NFL since then. Through 2017 no team was willing to sign him despite the fact he’s a proven quarterback. Colin even led 49ers to Super Bowl in 2012. It seems like SB XLVII was ages ago, because no teams acknowledge Kaepernick as a viable option at QB, even as a backup. He believes this has more to do with his protests than with his quality as a player.
Jerry Jones is one of the owners who was awaited for deposition. When asked about this subject during owner’s meeting he declined to answer on this subject. It is known that Jones is the owner who was most vocal in criticizing the anthem protests. He even stated that if any Cowboys player joins the rallies, he’s going to be benched. That is not all as he went even further and into the war of words with Rodger Goodell, the commissioner of NFL, for his inadequate handling of the protests.
After Houston Texans owner Bob Mcnair, Jones is only the second owner to be deposed. Before these two, Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome and head coach John Harbaugh also gave statements.
Colin Kaepernick was present in all of the depositions mentioned above.
For now, there are four other owners to testify in the presence of Colin Kaepernick. They are Jed York of 49ers, Robert Kraft of New England Patriots, Stephen Ross of Miami Dolphins, and Paul Allen of Seattle Seahawks.
It is still unknown what did Jones said in his deposition, but more will be known in coming days.
