The new Shanghai-bound Jeep Yuntu concept has been teased for some time and Jeep has released a new sketch last week which shows the concept almost in its entirety. At the Shanghai Auto Show, the carmaker from the US revealed its newest SUV, which is also the biggest one so far.
The Jeep Yuntu concept is basically a combination of futuristic details with the company’s iconic design. Yuntu means “Cloud” in Japanese and the first parts that you can notice on it are, of course, the seven-sloth front grille and the new narrow LED headlights. In spite of the futuristic look, the concept managed to keep the same rugged look, which we used to see on some other models from this company.
Once those reverse suicide doors are open, you can step inside the cabin, which really looks authentic. There are three rows of seats, and the center console dominates whereas interestingly enough, there is a large number of floating elements. A large LCD takes the position in the middle, and it goes all the way from the gauge cluster over the center console and to the passenger part of the dashboard. The total number of screens is eight and those located in the second and third-row act as an entertainment system.
Although performance details of Jeep Yuntu concept remain unknown, we can safely say that the powertrain of choice will be the plug-in hybrid because of the “PHEV” badges on the exterior. Some reports that come from China state that this will be more than a design study. If this Jeep’s concept somehow reaches production, it will be sold only in China. However, it is too early to speculate, and for now, the Yuntu can be seen on display at Auto Show in Shanghai.
