We all know there was a lot of news, speculations and guessing over the Jaguar I-Pace lately but as it seems now the company has a road-going I-Pace which they plan to unveil at the September’s Frankfurt Auto Show which is just six months after their concept made its European premiere in Geneva.
Jaguar’s design chief, Ian Callum gave a lot of statements lately regarding the company’s I-Pace, but the most recent one says that the styling of the concept is about 80 percent production ready. This can mean only one thing – the end product will without any doubt benefit from the same spacious cabin and short front and rear overhangs.
As far as the powertrain is considered, we believe that the unit option will remain the same as the one we saw in the concept, which means a combo of two electric motors and a 90 kWh battery. This setup is effectively capable of traveling of at least 300 miles (482 km) on a single charge which is more than impressive. But when it comes to the power department, nothing less impressive awaits there because the electric motors will be capable of delivering 395 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque.
The batteries have been developed in-house by Jaguar, and they can be charged up to 80% in just 90 minutes, or 100% in just a shy over two hours when hooked up to a 50 kW DC charging point. The only downside of the I-Pace, well, to be honest, this is also a downside to all electric cars, is its weight. It will most definitely be heavy, and if Auto Express is to be believed, they say it will weigh approximately 4.600+ lbs (2,100 kg).
The price tag has been speculated a lot, and so far no one has a certain price or even a price range, but the widest opinion on the web is that the I-Pace will be somewhere around 10-15% pricier than the equivalent F-Pace. Jaguar probably has a reason for that, and what exactly it is we shall see when the I-Pace officially hits the dealerships.
