There were many good receivers that played in the NFL. There are a lot of good wideouts that are in the NFL right now. But, there are few great ones. Those that really made an impact in the NFL during an extended period of time. One of them is Terrell Owens, who is now on the ballot for a Hall of Fame membership. Should he get in?
The stats are there. He has retired as the second leading player in the NFL history when it comes to receiving yards. Owens had 15,934 career receiving yards to go along with his 153 receiving touchdowns. That ranks third All-Time. Six-time Pro Bowler while he made a Pro Bowl with three different teams and led five different teams in receiving.
Played with the 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys, Bills and the Bengals. He made it to the Super Bowl with the Eagles but was injured in the Playoffs. He made it back in time for the Super Bowl and had nine catches for 122 yards and a score. Some say it was on one leg. Patriots double-teamed him and couldn’t do a thing about him getting his yardage.
The knock on Terrell Owens is his antics on and off the field. He was known for his celebrations, rants, and provocations on the field. The most memorable of his antics was going to the middle of the field after scoring a touchdown against the Cowboys and decided to stand in the midst of the Cowboys star as a sign of disrespect. On another occasion, he even went there and slammed the ball.
But with all that, there is no doubt about the fact that TO should be in the Hall of Fame. He was supposed to be there the first time around. Voters chose not to select him as a first ballot Hall of Famer, but they should do it now.
