Whenever Finn Balor is in the ring, and the announcers are introducing him to the fans, they always make sure to mention that The Demon is the first ever Universal Champion. Last year at the Summerslam, he beat Seth Rollins in the first ever Universal title match and was crowned with the most important title on Raw after the brand split.
Unfortunately, his title reign was really shot as he hurt his shoulder during that match when Seth threw him into the barricade. He didn’t land the right way, and it caused him to miss six months of action. Something was lacking when he made his return to the ring as the company really didn’t give him anything significant to do.
Over the past couple of weeks, he has been very well protected and very well booked. The rumors that he was going to challenge Lesnar for the title that he actually never lost were starting to swirl. Since he has been winning a lot of matches, the rumors looked likely to come true. But, then Monday Night Raw happened, and he lost to Kane. Yes, a guy that has been with the company for over 20 years has pinned one of the major stars clean in the middle of the ring.
According to Dave Meltzer, the plans for Balor challenging Brock Lesnar are likely scratched. That is not the issue here. The bigger problem here is the why Balor is used to put Kane over? Meltzer says that even people close to Vince can’t explain this decision.
“I’ve asked around and like, I mean, people who always defend Vince have been, like, there’s no explanation. There’s no defense. He just whiffed.”
