Should the Dallas Cowboys start the search for a fresh receiving talent before the 2018 season? Demaryius Thomas is on the Denver Broncos trade block? Could this trade happen?
Even though the trade deadline has already passed, we have to look forward since the season 2018 should be a big one for the Cowboys. Hiring a wide receiver such as Demaryius Thomas could mean a lot. We believe that such an addition makes the difference, the difference between making the playoffs and sitting at home come in January. Why do we think that Thomas could be the one to join the Dallas crew? Well, he squandered his chances in Denver. It’s not like he is the only one to do so, many players found themselves in the same situation.
On the other hand, the Cowboys really need an additional elite wide receiver. Thomas could be ‘an affordable’ option considering his situation in Denver. Many fans claim that the America’s Team should just draft a man of the similar skill. But, in recent years it turned out that finding such a player was quite a difficult task.
Looking back at recent draft classes, it is clear that a veteran hungry for a Super Bowl ring could probably get it before a draftee. The pattern shows that getting a veteran really seems like a better option. Seeing that Thomas has fallen out of favor in Denver, the idea of the Cowboys acquiring him sounds very probable.
Thomas has been criticized for not being as consistent as he used to be in the past. This guy was a true leader of the Broncos in their championship pursuits in the previous seasons, but now he is considered to be a huge disappointment. Some would go as far as calling him a bust.
Thomas has recorded only two touchdowns this season so far and hardly impressive 500 plus receiving yards. Considering that he is a ‘high caliber’ player, this stat line isn’t something to be proud of. Many blame his new vegan diet for this lack of strength, composure and consistency.
However, Thomas is not the only one to blame. The Broncos’ offense is a mess, to be honest. They don’t have a franchise quarterback and a consistent running game. Find a wide receiver that can work in those conditions and you’ll be considered a genius.
The Cowboys should look for a top-tier wide receiver that could be paired with Dez Bryant. Why not go for Thomas? He has been a good receiving option in the last five seasons and seeing that he is 30 years old, he is at the peak of his career.
The Cowboys could really benefit from a stable veteran, especially when it comes to passing. In the end, Dak Prescott desperately needs some playmakers to make the offense better. Dallas should take into consideration the possible trade for Thomas unless he gets released since he has a huge cap hit of $12 million.
We believe that the former first-round pick could fit in the Cowboys’ offense perfectly since he will often be targeted and will have a decent amount of space thanks to the stable run game and line to play alongside.
