Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) announced that it will showcase the smart bracelet dubbed MICA or My Intelligent Communication Accessory during the Opening Ceremony Spring/summer 2015 fashion show on September 7.
MICA was the product of the collaboration of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) and Opening Ceremony. The company announced their partnership at the CES conference in Las Vegas early this year.
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) did the engineering aspect while Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim took care of the design of MICA, a feminine fashion accessory integrated with communications capabilities.
“Today, the innovative results of the intensive concept and design process are revealed with the first images of MICA. As a feminine accessory blending seamlessly into everyday life, MICA ushers in a new era converging fashion and technology by integrating a woman’s luxury accessory with technology in order to complement and enhance a woman’s work and social life,” according to Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC).
According to the chip maker, MICA allows women to stay connected via SMS messages, meeting alerts, and general notifications delivered directly to the wrist. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) said it will reveal the additional features and functionalities of the smart bracelet at a later date.
Aysegul Ildeniz, vice president and general manager of business development and strategy, New Devices Group at Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) said, “We’re not going too much into detail before the product is actually on the market, but what I can say is we’re calling it a communications accessory. It’s intended to enable you to be connected at all times, through social feeds.”
The chip maker emphasized that MICA exemplifies the true collaboration between the fashion and technology industries. The smart bracelet was developed based on the expertise of Opening Ceremony in fashion and industrial design capabilities of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC).
MICA’s revolutionary design features semi-precious gems and water snakeskin combined with advanced technology including communications capabilities and wireless charging support.
The smart bracelet sports a curved sapphire glass touchscreen display, and it is available in two styles. One style features a black water snake skin, pearls from China and lapis stones from Madagascar. The other style features a white water snake skin, tiger’s eye from South Africa and obsidian from Russia.
The smart bracelets will be available at select Barneys and Opening Ceremony stores by holiday 2014.
