With good-looking automobiles that have outstanding driving range per charge, Tesla has the best all-electric vehicles in the market, and with the arrival of Model 3, its stock has risen seventy-percent since the beginning of 2017, which isn’t a surprise for us at all. But will Tesla continue dominating the world of electric vehicles?
If you ask Hyundai, this trend should last no longer. The South Korean automaker has confirmed that all-electric cars will be the core of its production and the most important model will be a premium long-distance EV which will be produced by Genesis. Executive Vice President Lee Kwang-guk told reporters at a recent press conference: “We’re strengthening our eco-friendly car strategy, centering on electric vehicles.”
We need to take these words seriously because Hyundai and affiliate Kia Motors Corp. together rank at number five spot in global vehicles sales. Reuters reports that Genesis is going to launch an electric sedan in four years which will have a range of 310 miles per charge. The first half of 2018 is reserved for the electric version of the Kona SUV which range will be limited to 242 miles.
The Tesla Model 3, on the other hand, will be able to cover between 220 and 310 miles per charge and this will depend on driver’s behavior and his habits. The Tesla Model X which will compete against the Kona SUV can go between 237 and 289 miles per charge. The new Model 3 is extremely affordable as its base price starts at $35,000, but we don’t know the starting prices of Hyundai’s electric models at the moment. This is not all as we also need to mention the acceleration of the Model X which can reach 60 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds, making it the quickest SUV in the world. Can Hyundai compete with these figures?
Hyundai introduced IONIQ last year, which is the first mass-market all-electric car. Even though this was an important step for the carmaker, the customers were dissatisfied with the model, especially its driving range. Hyundai will definitely change that with its new all-electric lineup.
