Hyundai presented its sub-compact SUV concept named Carlino at the 13th edition of Auto Expo 2016. This concept car is based on the i20 platform, and the production vehicle will go on sale in India in 2019. The codename of the Hyundai Carlino is HND14, and the Indian public still didn’t have a chance to see the concept car, which would give them an idea of what the final version will look like. Just for the record, the upcoming MPV which is codenamed IP is also based on the same architecture.
Hyundai Carlino Interior and Exterior
The Carlino has a lot of similarities to the i20 and Creta models since the new car follows the same Fluidic 2.0 design philosophy. The styling of the new sub-compact SUV is aggressive, and at the front end, you can see a large chrome grille that is flanked by the narrow headlights with interesting design traits. The sides and the rear end of this vehicle are similar to the ones of Creta, but it also reminds us of the Santa Fe.
The cabin look remains unknown to the public, but it is expected that the new Hyundai Carlino will come with the audio system, six airbags, push-button start, rear-view camera and infotainment and navigation system to name a few.
Engine Options
Speaking of engine lineup, both petrol and diesel versions will be offered. There is a 1.4-liter petrol unit that produces 84 bhp and 114 Nm of torque, while the customers will also have the 1.4-liter U2 CRDi diesel powerplant which delivers 89 bhp and 220 Nm of torque as an option. These engines will be mated to a five-speed manual transmission, but a four-speed automatic will be available as well.
Competition and Release date
Some of the competitors of the Hyundai Carlino in India are Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra TUV300 and Ford Ecosport. Considering that the production model will reach Indian market in 2019, the concept will be shown to the public next year. The starting price of Hyundai Carlino will be between INR 8 lakh and INR 12.5 lakh ($12,000 – $18,750).
