Naomi has won the Women’s Smackdown title back at the Elimination Chamber, and it was planned for her to go to the Wrestlemania in her hometown of Orlando with the belt around her waist. This was the plan so that the company can get some mainstream attention with the hometown hero holding the title going into the biggest show of the year that WWE produces.
As seen on Tuesday’s episode of Smackdown Live, Naomi was forced to vacate her title due to a knee injury she suffered during her match against Alexa Bliss at the Elimination Chamber event.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Naomi suffered the injury when she did her finishing move in the fight against Alexa. That finisher looked weird as it seems that Bliss didn’t really know where to position herself before Naomi hit her.
At first, the company didn’t expect her to miss much time, but the injury ended up being more serious than it was initially expected. It is unknown whether or not she will be at Wrestlemania, but the recovery shouldn’t be very long. It is believed that the injury is pretty similar to what Rollins suffered at the hands of Samoa Joe.
In regards to the title picture on Smackdown live, it appears that Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch will be working a program again. Tamina is also returning to action over the weekend, there is always the possibility that they could toss her into the mix. Now that Naomi is out of the picture, we’ll see who will represent this division at the grandest stage of them all.
