The build for the Universal Title match between the champion Brock Lesnar and the challenger Braun Strowman was excellent. Braun has been a force to be reckoned with and has looked dominant over the course of the past couple of months. WWE has built him up in the way that nobody would be surprised if he dominated the Beast Incarnate at the No Mercy PPV. Strowman is the real deal on Monday Night Raw. He needed this win to take him to that next level.
But, WWE didn’t think that Strowman winning here was the way to go. Samoa Joe would have been a good pick to win the belt. Braun would have been a good choice as well. Still, the title is on Lesnar and that is not good for the brand. Why?
Well, he is not going to be on the WWE TV for over four months now, and the title is not going to be there as well. That is just one of the reasons. The other big reason for this being a big mistake on the WWE’s part is the fact that nobody looks good here. It was a bad match. Nothing of the great importance happened in this fight.
Strowman getting pinned with one F5 after looking so dominant for so long? Definitely a bad decision. Lensar winning that easily after looking pretty weak over the past couple of months? Bad decision yet again.
In the end, this was a really well built up duel that ended in a disappointing fashion. We wanted to see this so badly, we even called it a Wrestlemania-worthy match. Looking back, we are glad that this battle wasn’t booked for the biggest show of the year. It just couldn’t live up to the hype.
