It is well known that Honda, the popular Japanese automaker, make fine and quality cars that are available in various markets all over the world among which is the Indian market. The Japanese launched the City facelift in February, and recently they debuted their sub-4m crossover, the 2017 Honda WR-V. As the company introduced many models, some potential buyers might be puzzled when it comes to choice. Which model to buy? Jazz, City or the new WR-V. These three vehicles belong to different classes but have much in common, one similarity is the price which overlaps in some variations. Let’s compare them.
Before we start, we’d like to point out that if you are a buyer who loves automatic transmission, you can cross out the WR-V. It simply doesn’t have a model with auto. Plain and simple. You are left with City and Jazz. Honda Jazz offers CVT transmission with petrol versions of E and S variations, and the top-end VX trim misses it. But if you don’t mind spending a little bit more on gas you can have the ZX petrol trim of the City which is only offered with an automatic transmission.
We would also like to point out that the new WR-V has a sunroof and if that feature is the priority for you, stop looking and go for this one. For example, the WR-V is the most affordable car on Indian market to have a sunroof.
When it comes to the drivetrain, all three cars have the same 1.5-liter diesel engine which will give you 100 PS and 200Nm of torque, and it is connected to a six-speed manual transmission. If you love efficiency go for the Jazz since it has the best mileage of 27.3 kmpl.
Moving on to the petrol engine lineup, the WR-V and the Jazz run on the same 1.2-liter iVTEC engine that makes 90 PS and 110 Nm of torque, while the 2017 Honda City has a 1.5-liter iVTEC engine. The most powerful of three is the City because its engine can pump out 119 PS and 145 Nm of torque. So if you want the most powerful one, now you know which one to choose.
Let’s delve more in the cost of these vehicles. This will answer which is the most practical choice depending on how much you are prepared to give.
If you have a big budget you can buy the top-end variant of the 2017 Honda Jazz (petrol or diesel model) or the top-end WR-V (petrol) or the basic variant of the City (petrol). All three of the mentioned versions have ABS and dual airbags as part of standard package. However when it comes to price the WR-V is the one that offers the most for your money. It features 16-inch alloy wheels, the Digipad, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is only offered in the most expensive variations of the City. We also mentioned the sunroof, well, the WR-V has the one-touch open and close sunroof, and if you can stretch a bit more, the diesel variant of the WR-V has a push-button start and cruise control.
The WR-V is spacious, it offers 188mm of ground clearance, so it is suitable for almost every kind of road. The Jazz offers magic seats and automatic transmission, the City has a bigger, 510-liter boot, a powerful engine and is a premium sedan.
All in all, you should get Jazz if you want an automatic transmission equipped hatchback and you are tight on cash. Go for the City if you want power and have a bit more to spend. Take the WR-V if you want all the Honda ‘luxury’ and have enough money to give.
