After the Paris reveal last month everybody got a good look at the Honda Civic Type R, but now we have a chance to take a closer look at its less extreme but nothing less sporty cousin the Honda Civic Si which is set to make its debut at the L.A. Auto Show on November 16th.
Honda is working hard on excitement increase with its clientele, and that is the main reason why there is a lack of detailed info regarding the new Civic Si. One thing that is confirmed for L.A. Auto Show is that the Si version of Civic will be turbocharged when it makes its first world appearance. The displacement or any other info regarding the engine is nowhere to be found, but a few good guesses are out there. First, of them says that there is a possibility that the new Si will host a higher power output version of the 1.5-liter I4 unit that can be found in the standard Civic. The other rumor is pulling more to a higher performance 2.0-liter turbo engine found in the Type R which will most likely be toned down a bit.
As you may or may not know, the 1.5 L can output as much as 180 HP in the Civic and 190 HP in the recently revealed 2017 Honda CR-V, while the 2.0 L turbo in the current Civic Type R sold overseas makes 305 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. Since the Civic Si is meant to be a middle ground between standard Civic and higher performance Civic Type R it will probably output something around 220 to 230 HP and should be paired with the six-speed manual transmission.
The Civic Si coupe prototype was spied before, and it had somewhat different design cues on the outside. When it was caught it had a different grille and front fascia than the standard version, and didn’t have a large rear wing of the Type R. By some information it should offer two body types hatchback and sedan (that is due to appear eventually). We should also notice that a few weeks before the Civic Si makes its debut you will be able to see the Civic Type R live at SEMA Show in Las Vegas as a part of its North American debut.
