Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) announced its new laptop device that will come to the market early next year. The new laptop is christened EliteBook Folio 1020 and comes in two versions, with one being lighter than MacBook Air from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). The new laptop runs on Windows 8 from Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), according to The Verge.
With the new laptop, Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) has not betrayed its enterprise focus as the device is apparently designed for the hardcore business environment. Designed with a business mind, the laptop is bundled with 8GB internal memory and expandable external memory that comes in the range of 128GB and 256GB. The fanless laptop runs on Intel Core M processor from Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which makes it a cool and quiet machine. EliteBook Folio 1020 boasts an acclaimed 9-hour of battery life, which in a way puts it in a class of its own.
The new laptop from Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) came on top of the military-grade test for drop and shock. That makes it a suitable device for the sometimes clumsy office environment. Left unsaid until now is that EliteBook Folio 1020 is designed to give thieves a run for their money, so to speak. The device is not only bundled with a fingerprint reader for security purposes, but also has a chip that never goes off that allows for the tracking of the laptop if it is lost or stolen. The special chip inside the laptop remains on even when the device is shut down, according to PCWorld.
The two versions of EliteBook Folio 1020 are Standard Edition and Special Edition, with the Special Edition laptop being lighter than MacBook Air as it weighs just about 2.27 pounds.
The Standard Edition Folio 1020 comes with touchscreen option, but the feature lacks in the lighter laptop. The Standard Edition laptop is expected to come to the market in February 2015, and the Special Edition is expected to launch in April 2015.
Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) did not update on the price tag of its new laptop. However, the price could be higher than that of an Air.
