Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) has taken a major decision of removing the two gaming apps that were hurting the sentiments of people, who showed their dislike over the social media platforms. These two apps were a simulation of Israeli air strikes on Gaza. Google’s Play Store for Android is hugely popular among the users and comes with a host of apps serving various purposes.
Games violate Google polices
The two removed Android apps are Bomb Gaza and Gaza Assault. The users did not like the idea of tragedy being used as an idea for developing the game. This did not go well with many users and aroused anger, which they expressed on the social media platform saying such apps should not have been allowed by Google in its Play Store.
The games were covered by media after which many people got to know about the game and aroused fury leading to complaints against Google on the social media. After this Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) took the step of removing those on Monday, and by the time the two games had already completed a week each on Play Store.
A spokesperson for Google said, “We remove apps from Google Play that violate our policies.”
Violence, bullying and hate speech are all prohibited by the Developer Program Policies of Google. While no specific policy or the grounds have been informed by the spokesperson for removing the apps, but violence is considered as the prime cause.
About the games
App Annie informs that on July 26 Bomb Gaza was released in the Google Play Store. The game is set in a town with terrorists and civilians, and the players are assigned the tasks of ‘killing’ the terrorists by dropping bombs on them, which can also hit the civilians. The users are required to play cautiously so as to protect the civilians from getting killed. With every dying civilian the rage meter goes up and if the player kills too many civilians the game comes to an end, when the limit of ‘Rage Meter’ is reached.
Gaza Assault is another game built on similar grounds, but it only requires killing of the hidden terrorists in the cells, but does not have civilian as part of game, informs App Annie.
