Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is gearing up for the launch of its first-ever experimental mobile network having been working on building cell towers in the sky, in the form of solar powered drones and balloons. The search giant’s senior vice president for products, Sundar Pichai, has confirmed that results for its mobile network should start becoming evident in the months to come as focus shifts to merging cell and Wi-Fi networks in a seamless way.
Pichai made the comments at the ongoing Mobile Web Conference in Barcelona where the executive reiterated that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is not looking to be a network operator at scale. The executive reiterated that the search giant is only trying to push the boundary with the innovations in hardware and software. Google is working with carrier partners as it looks to bring to realization its innovation without going full scale.
Pricing on completion of the project is not of concern at the moment according to Pichai, but essentially finding a way whereby Wi-Fi and cell networks can work together and come out seamlessly. The search giant has been working on building fixed networks through Google Fiber. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s mobile network project has mostly been aided by Project Loon and Titan.
The Two projects that have seen the search giant put balloons and solar powered planes into the sky for providing internet accessibility to some remote areas of the world.
The projects are intended to bring more people online where Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) would be able to sell to them more of its services.
Attention has been shifting to emerging markets where future battles are to be fought, and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will love to take the leading role especially in attracting more people to its platform. Pichai confirmed that Google has got its Loon balloons to work for six month’s stretches.
