The tug of war between Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android Apps and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s apps would never end. It was because both enjoy a good quality. A situation has also come in where there was no comparison would be complete without involving these two. Therefore, the year 2014 has gone but comparison would keep going on. If one company wins a particular space, another company takes credit for a different purpose.
Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) was termed a winner in 2014 over Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) as far as operating software Android apps and games were concerned. Google Play has won the race with Apple’s App store by approximately 60% as far as downloads were concerned. The new data was brought out by App Annie, an analytics firm.
Monetization Winner
However, when it comes to monetization, Apple was the clear winner since App Store generated over 70% of revenue compared to Google Play in 2014. This reinforced the quality enjoyed by both the companies OS and the change of fortunes happening quickly. Developers have been observing this long-running trend, and the latest was a continuation of that process.
Though Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android enjoys leadership share, its users were not ready to make purchases through apps. On the other hand, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s users were ready to make in-app purchases. For instances, Monument Valley, a puzzle game company, recently disclosed that 81% of its approximately $6 million sales came from iOS.
Three Main Nations
It was not surprising but interesting to note that the United States, South Korea, and Japan generated more app revenue compared to the other parts of the world put together in 2014.
However, the data related to only Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Play and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iOS App Store. This meant that the data did not take into consideration the other Android stores that have multiplied in places such as China.
