Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is set to launch its latest Nexus smartphones next week on September 29.
The software and tech company has been in close partnership with LG and Huawei to work on the two devices. However, the devices are not expected to take up the manufacturer name. Sources claim the phones have been renamed as the Nexus 6P and the Nexus 5X. They are expected to come with the latest version of Android’s open-source operating system, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The new OS was announced at Google’s I/O this year.
The two Nexus smartphones are the next instalment after their predecessor, the Nexus 6 which was manufactured by Motorola. LG has been working on the Nexus 5X while Huawei took up the Nexus 6P. Android developers are rather excited about the new offering. This is because Android Nexus phones have always been an ideal platform to test their skills especially with its combination of power and developer-friendly software.
There are a few other things to get excited about, starting with the USB type-c ports. The devices will also have fingerprint scanners. Qualcomm SnapDragon 820 processors are expected to run on both phones, each coupled with 3GB RAM. As for the design features, the Nexus 6P will be the bigger one of the two with a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, thus a bit smaller than its predecessor. The Nexus 5X will feature a 5.7-inch Quad HD display.
Some differences are also expected in the battery life with the Nexus 5S sporting a 2700mAh battery capacity whiles the Nexus 6P will offer more through its 3500mAh capacity. The two phones will most likely not support expandable memory. It is not clear what the internal capacity of the devices will be, though rumors suggest that it might be 128GB.
The devices are expected to offer a pure Android experience where the interface will not be cramped with extra apps. In the meantime, there is a lot more to expect from the two phones but that will only be available once the devices are launched.
