Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has launched its latest offerings including the two new Nexus phones and the new Chromecast streaming devices.
The company’s new launch comes after the recent official release of the new OS, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow that took place on Tuesday. The Nexus 6P and the Nexus 5S are the first devices to host the new Android 6.0 operating system. The devices also feature the latest manufacturer trends such as Google’s digital assistant and fingerprint scanners. The devices also feature the new Nexus camera.
The Nexus 6P was manufactured by Huawei, and it features a metal chassis with a 5.7-inch display. The Nexus 5S was manufactured by LG. It is slightly smaller with a 5.2-inch display. Both devices are currently available for preorder with prices starting at $499 for the Nexus 6P and $379 for the Nexus 5S. They come unlocked to encourage purchase for any region. Therefore, no news about mobile provider contracts has been released.
Bundling the devices with the new Marshmallow OS is expected to improve their popularity. However, the company will release the OS next week for upgrades on other Android devices. Google seems to be following the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) tradition of releasing software early and then launching the hardware later on. Google also strategically launched the devices as the holiday season approaches to capitalize on the holiday spending.
The company is also planning to take center stage in the living room with a new version of its Chromecast streaming device. Google has also included a companion audio streaming device called Chromecast Audio. Users can access music by streaming it from the cloud using this service. Each of the devices is available for sale at $35. Spotify has also jumped on board with the two streaming devices.
The company is also launching a new subscription service for Google Play Music that will be priced at $14.99 per month. Google also announced that so far it has sold more than 20 million Chromecast devices.
