Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)(NASDAQ:GOOG) is now planning to make International roaming free for the United States. According to a report in Telegraph, the company is in talk with Hutchison Whampoa to work on its proposed plan.
Google plans global network
The search engine giant is looking to offer a flat rate for the calls, texts and data, irrespective of the location of the customer. Citing sources aware of the development, the report mentions that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)(NASDAQ:GOOG) is prepping to create a global network that will cost same to the user. The company is also considering a wholesale access agreement that would allow it to launch in the United States mobile market with its own network.
Through collaboration with the Hutchison, the internet company wants to gain access into the mobile service in the UK, Ireland, Italy and various other countries that have access to Hutchison’s network. But as of now British customers would not be benefited by the service. Additionally, Google has sent out clear signals that it is planning to bring in its own network in the United States mobile market.
Not a first attempt
Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)(NASDAQ:GOOG) is taking ahead this project under the small scale category that could create headwind for other companies to bring down their prices. Further, it could also allow the operators to enhance the technology as well as the mobile coverage through Wi-Fi networks in the longer run.
In the past, as well, the company announced plans to launch a mobile network, and now it is depending on the wholesale deals to use existing infrastructures in the United States as well as Internationally, rather than setting up its own. One of the partners will be Hutchison, which is official now as this will allow it to rule out the roaming charges for three customers in the United States, according to the report.
This is not the first step from Google Inc (NASDAQ;GOOGL)(NASDAQ:GOOG) as the company has already entered in the United States fixed-line telecoms market with Google Fiber. Another tech giant, Apple is keen to replace SIM cards with its software that will enable the users to receive reception from any available network. Additionally, the iPhone maker holds few patents for technology that will enable the device to register on the best available network at a given point of time.
