In February this year, a sci-fi monster movie Kong: Skull Island was released, and it has recently landed on DVD and Blu-ray. The film director Michael Dougherty is now in charge of Godzilla 2, as well, which is set to see the light of day in 2019. But, the question is what about Godzilla vs. Kong entry, which will be directed by Adam Wingard? Luckily for you, we bring the latest news about this title.
Namely, Adam Wingard also directed Death Note, a supernatural horror-thriller which is slated to hit theaters by the end of the month, so the director is currently busy promoting this project of his. But, he used the opportunity to mention the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong movie, too. According to ScreenCrush, this is what Wingard revealed about the release:
“It’s a massive monster brawl movie. There are lots of monsters going crazy on each other, but at the end of the day, I want there to be an emotional drive to it. I want you to be emotionally invested in them. I think that’s what’s going to make it cool.”
Furthermore, he emphasized one more time how important it is to him for this film to be taken seriously and to give it a rather emotional tone. “I really want you to take those characters seriously. I want you to be emotionally invested, not just in the human characters, but actually in the monsters. If I had my way, I want people to really be teary-eyed at the end of the movie, and be that invested into what’s going on,” Wingard explained.
We hope the film will live up to his expectations and prove to be at least as successful as he hopes. But, we guess we’ll have to wait for quite some time to see that, as Godzilla vs. Kong is scheduled to premiere in 2024. In the meantime, stay tuned for more news.
