Gakkou Gurashi! or better known under its English title School-Live! is an anime adaptation of the manga series written by Nitroplus’ Norimitsu Kaihō and illustrated by Sadoru Chiba, which began its serialization in July 2012. The manga was adapted into anime series by Lerche studio in 2015. The first season aired on AT-X, Tokyo MX, SUN, BS11 and other Japanese channels, and it ended in September 2015.
The series revolves around Yuki Takeya, a young girl who is one of the members of Megurigaoka Private High School’s School Living Club. One day, Yuki and three other girls from her school get trapped in the school surrounded by zombies. They are trying to protect themselves from the zombie invasion by building barricades. However, from time to time they have to leave the safe area in order to get food and other necessities. Yuki keeps pretending everything is normal, but that does not change the fact that they live under constant threat of zombies and that they are actually just trying to survive day after day.
The first season of the anime was so well-received that the manga series became more popular after its release. While it is quite common that a manga series inspires an anime adaptation and it’s just as common that the tv adaptation turns out to be more popular among fans, what’s unusual in this case is that only one season of the show covers the events from all six volumes of the manga series. This is why some people have been wondering whether the Gakkou Gurashi anime creators will have enough material to make the second season.
For the time being, it seems highly likely that the anime will be renewed for Season 2, but we will probably have to wait for the official announcement before jumping to conclusions. They will probably reveal more about the next batch of episodes sometime this year. Follow us and we will keep you updated.
