Frozen 2 Release date, Cast, Plot, Songs – Everything we Know

Even back in 2015, we knew that Frozen is going to have a sequel. Now, this news has been officially confirmed by Disney. The news of Frozen 2 have thrown millions of children, and of course, us adults into trans. Well, maybe not all adults, because those parents whose children are genuinely obsessed with characters from this animated movie might have trouble with digesting the second installment.

At this point, it is hard to tell you anything regarding Frozen 2 because the release or even a teaser trailer are eons away (from a child eager to see Anna and Elsa again on a frosty adventure) but here is what we can do. Thanks to the Internet and ton of opinions, rumors, speculations, and insights we can tell you what will most likely happen.

Frozen 2 Release date

First things first. Disney has confirmed that Frozen 2 is imminent; it is so certain that we know exactly when it will be delivered. The second installment (of what will undoubtedly become an animated franchise) is scheduled for November 27, 2019. The hype that revolves around this movie is so big that you have a clock counting years, days, hours, minutes and seconds to release.

Cast

The second most important thing is the cast. Frozen 2 wouldn’t be the same without the voices that become so dear to us trough characters such are Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, Hans and the rest of the gang. That’s why we were more than excited when the official news broke out that Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel confirmed that they are committed to the cause of the sequel. There were issues with they paychecks, but that was sorted out. After all, the first movie is the highest grossing animated movie of all time and fifth highest grossing movie in all categories. The persons that made it this popular are these two women, and they deserve all the money that they asked for. They didn’t ask for too much, just a deserved raise.

Before the Frozen 2 release these girls will appear in 2017 Christmas special, and we already saw them in Frozen Fever. They are actually thrilled to be a part of this project which was confirmed on their Twitter accounts. As you probably already know the news about the second film came first from this two actresses.

Kristen Bell talked about the sequel back in 2016. At that time she said that the Frozen 2 is taking so long because that is one of the biggest Disney’s projects. And as such, the company is taking a good car of it, in order to make it as good as the first one. In one of her most recent interview, with Collider, she stated: “What I know about that whole team is that they wouldn’t just put something out to put it out. That’s why it took them so long even to announce that we were doing the second one. When you have a first successful movie, you want to make a second one. It took them a while because they wanted to figure out what story they needed to tell and what would be meaningful and engaging and I think they found it.”

Peter Del Vecho who is a producer at Disney had similar thoughts about the upcoming movie. He said: “We’re in the development writing process and are very excited by it. Like all movies, it will evolve. Now that we’ve been involved in it for awhile, what’s exciting is it feels like it builds on the first movie. You understand things better in the first movie after you’ve seen the sequel.”

The script is still in development, and as of now, we don’t know when will it be complete. This means that both Bell and Menzel haven’t seen it yet. Consequentially they still haven’t started recording the sound sequences.

Another person who was an important part of Frozen is Jennifer Lee who was a director of the first film. She also used Twitter to show her joy at the imminent coming of Frozen 2. That’s right, Jennifer Lee is back to direct the sequel of the highest grossing animated movie of all time.

Recurring Characters

Frozen wouldn’t be what it is without one of the most lovable characters which Olaf certainly is. The demand for Frozen is so huge that while we wait for the second part, Disney will treat us with Christmas special. This special will have Olaf as the protagonist, and it is already in production. According to sources from Disney, it will be out in late 2017. You could figure this all by yourself because it’s Christmas special, so it obviously comes late in the year.

The show will run on ABC network in the US, and it will revolve around the adorable snowman. Olaf will have the lead but the rest of the gang which consists of Ann, Elsa, Kristoff, and Sven will have a role to play. Regarding the animation, it will be handled by an award-winning duo of Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton.

Frozen on Broadway?

One of the things that made this movie stand out were certainly the songs that featured in it. The tunes were composed by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Unfortunately, it was not officially confirmed whether will these two be back for Frozen 2. Nonetheless, they are still loyal to studio and project because they are currently working on writing the music for Frozen Broadway Musical. This musical will have its premiere in spring of 2018.

According to some ‘info’ from the people close to this two, the song on the table for this Broadway show is called True Love. The individuals who had the privilege to hear it, claim that is has a quality to stand toe to toe with Let It Go.

Other people working on Frozen musical are Tony Award-winning director Michael Grandage, and choreographer Christopher Gattelli who worked on Newsies and The King & I. The casting is not yet announced. During the table read in May Betsy Wolf, Patti Murin, and Okieriete Onaodowan played Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff. It is not yet known whether they will continue their roles. The musical will first be airing in Denver for two months starting in August, and then it will be transferred to Broadway.

Elsa’s new Dress

Elsa’s blue dress was one of the most sold merchandise articles from the movie. So, there’s no surprise that they want to introduce another dress and make millions of young girls around the world go crazy about it and eventually buy it. The new look of Elsa and Anna is a cause for various speculations, and we can say that expectations are high. For Frozen Fever, both of them were introduced with a new style, and now fanbase is vivid to see their look in Frozen 2.

Looking at the sales numbers for the products from the first movie such as cuddly toys, books, sing-a-long DVDs, cinema screenings, and of course Frozen dolls, let’s say they went trough the roof. The demand for some of this stuff was so significant that when dolls mentioned above were short on supply people were paying a couple of hundreds of dollars for them on Ebay. Frozen 2 Biggest burning issues to solve

According to movie critics associated with telegraph.co.uk Robbie Collin and Tim Robey, one of the biggest problems with the Frozen sequel and with future parts, in general, is making it good and successful. This notion especially goes with musical installments. This movie became so popular thanks to good animation, excellent voice acting, but most of all, it had a good musical base. The leading song in the first movie was Let It Go, and it had an immense success worldwide. Not only on Oscar ceremony but also in memes, karaoke bars, etc.

That’s why these two critics are of the opinion that next film needs something completely different in order to succeed. In conclusion, they have stated that one of the most resonating options is a duet between Elsa and Anna. An idea that sounds good to us, what do you think?

The composer for the first movie was Christophe Beck, and he did his job on Frozen Fever together with Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. The later pair is credited for Oscar-winning Let It Go, and now have similar wishes for Make Every Day A Perfect Day track.

Like we already stated, the Lopezes displayed their delight regarding the sequel via Twitter, but haven’t confirmed that they will be working on Frozen 2. The case is the same with Beck. The Plot of Frozen 2

No, we don’t know the course of the actual plot but there is Frozen 2 rumor-mill, and a few things that will happen/might happen. One of the most asked questions is, whether will Elsa lose her life during the movie. To answer you, no, of course, she will not! The first reason is that she is the protagonist in a child-targeted movie so this is less likely ever to happen. Another reason is purely financial.

The Disney would lose a lot if Elsa is gone, they would have to kill off all merchandise tied to her name. Also, children would be protesting on the streets. It would be chaos. The only way that she could die is that it happens only for a moment, and then she would be resurrected by a display of love from her sister or someone else. Another option is that she becomes some sort of transcendental winter mountain fairy, but this is a long shot.

Another part of the plot that is speculated a lot is Olaf and his love life. The fans and some more serious movie watchers are of the opinion that Olaf should be given a girlfriend. This would be good, not only for the plot, but it would certainly boost the sales of Olaf-based merchandise. We all know that popularity of this character skyrocketed from his first onscreen appearance. He is currently one of the most popular side characters ever introduced by Disney. This would happen as a product of Elsa’s growing ice powers and inspired by the love between Kristoff and Anna.

Now, let’s be honest, these are all just speculations. Regarding the actual plot and storyline, we know nothing. Both the studio and the actors are keeping their mouths shut. This was expected because it would be foolish to reveal anything so far away from its release date. We only know that it ought to be good because leading voice actor Kristen Bell had only words of praise for Frozen 2 theme.

Since the release of the first installment in 2013, the only time we had a chance to see our favorite characters was in 2015 short story Frozen Fever. The plot of FF was revolving around Elsa improving her ice abilities and trying to throw the best possible birthday party for Anna. She was aided by Kristoff, and all of the characters were happy as they could be. The only question remaining is whether will this happiness last until the release of Frozen 2.

Like you know, the reason why Disney waited so long for the sequel is that they wanted for the second film to be as good as the first on, or if it’s possible to be even better. As it seems they now have a story good enough, they have a support and signature of the leading actors, and a huge fanbase as well that are expecting every drop of news about the movie before it arrives.

Plot of the First Movie

While we are waiting for the second movie, let’s talk about the first movie plot in short lines. It’s not like you don’t know it but this is for those who are hearing all the Frozen 2 hype but don’t know where it’s coming from (like that’s even possible). So the story begins when highly optimistic Anna starts an epic journey. She teams up with a mountain-man called Kristoff who is followed by his loyal companion Sven. Sven is a reindeer no more and no less. Her aim is to find her sister Elsa who is absent after she’s trapped entire kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter thanks to her ice powers. Moving trough arctic conditions Anna and Kristoff team up with snowman called Olaf who is funny, laid back, and clumsy as he can get.

Surrounded by snow, ice, mountains, and trolls, they continue the adventure of their lifetimes. Anna’s sister Elsa looks cold, reserved but that is only her mask. She is like that because she lives in constant fear as she is born with the powers to control ice and snow. She is keeping this a secret from the entire world. Despite possessing an alluring ability, it is also dangerous because Elsa nearly killed her sister when her’s magic got out of control. That’s the main reason why she isolated herself in order not to encounter any people that might get hurt by her ever-growing powers. Triggered by the surge of her emotions this girl completely freezes the Kingdom in an eternal winter. Now she fears that she is a monster that can’t be saved, not even by her sister.

The story evolves from there, but we won’t spoil it for you too much if you haven’t watched it yet.

Frozen Trivia

For the end of our article, we have compiled a list of few interesting things regarding first Frozen movie. We are hoping that fun facts regarding the sequel will start popping out like flies in upcoming months. For now, read these.

1) The technology that was needed for the scene where Elsa builds her Ice Castle was created by fifty people. It took thirty hours of work for just one frame. The entire scene lasts merely thirty-six seconds.

2) Sister Summit was held for all animators that worked on the movie. The studio wanted them to understand the relationship between sisters better. Thanks to this the sister bond on the film looks better than in any other.

3) In the scene after Elsa’s coronation, Hans was intended to gift Anna a snow globe, but the idea was dropped. The reason was narrative streamlining.

4) The original layout of the castle where Ann and Elsa lived was imagined to have a dressing room between the rooms of sisters. The idea was there in order to allow more interaction between the sisters; but it was cut out because they needed to be separated after Elsa accidentally hurt Anna.

5) Do you know what crocus is? It is official crest of the Kingdom of Arendelle. It is a flower that represents the rebirth and spring.

6) You all remember the Duke of Weselton. He was at first intended to be a royal handler to two sisters. Filmmakers changed that in order to shift the attention from Hans. They succeeded completely with that.

7) The voice of Oaken, Chris Williams, became a director of Big Hero 6.

8) The story on which Frozen is based on is Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen. The first idea regarding this piece was born in 1939! It was supposed to be a small part of the story revolving around the life of the famous author.

9) Elsa’s snowflake trademark can be seen on Anna when she got completely frozen.

10) In order to make the movie as realistic as it can get, artists from Disney have undergone meteorology courses. They even consulted with Doctor Snow (Dr. Ken Libbrecht from Cal Tech). He has taught them everything that he knows about creating the snow crystals.

11) While auditioning for Frozen, Santino Fontana sang ‘I Feel Pretty’ from West Side Story.

12) The last fact is the most astonishing. Elsa’s hair has more strands of hair than Rapunzel. Elsa can commend with 420,000 single strands while Rapunzel has only seventy feet of magic glowing hair.

Like we already mentioned Frozen is one of the most successful Disney movies of all time. The earnings of this film are estimated to be around $400.7 million in North America and $875.7 million in rest of the world. This makes a combined figure of $1.276 billion. Deadline.com dig deep into all of the expenses that this movie had and calculated that it earned over $400 million. Thanks to this it ranks as ninth highest-grossing movie (it was ranked fifth at its peak), the highest-grossing animated movie ever, the highest-grossing movie during 2013, the highest-grossing movie ever released by Disney, and fourth highest-grossing movie distributed by this company.

On its opening weekend, this film managed to earn $110.6 million. It reached and surpassed $1 billion mark on March 2, 2013, which was the 101st day of its release. These numbers made it eighteen movie in the entire industry to achieve these figures. It succeeded in this by being the seventh title to do so while being distributed by Disney; the fifth movie that comes this far and not being a sequel; the second Disney-distributed movie in 2013 with these earnings after Iron man 3. What is the most important part is that it was the first animated film to do so after the famous Toy Story 3.

According to an analyst from Bloomberg Business, the projected cost of making this movie was ranged from $323 million to $350 million. The cost included production, marketing, and distribution. The expected earnings were set to $1.3 billion which would be generated from box office ticket sales, digital downloads, discs, and television rights.

Frozen Fever

The Frozen Fever is the sequel delivered before the sequel for the Frozen movie. This animated musical fantasy short film was produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, and it revolves around Elsa who is trying to throw a birthday party for her sister Anna. She is aided by Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf. The directors of this short flick are Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee while the lead voice actors were Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad.

The work on Frozen Fever started in July of 2014. It took six months of work to complete it. This film co-debuted with, also Disney Movie, Cinderella on March 15, 2015. It was well accepted by audience and critics alike, with new song Making Today a Perfect Day created by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez received special praise.

The plot of Frozen Fever revolves around Elsa who is trying to make a surprise party for Anna with the help of Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf. During all that, while Anna is on a treasure hunt around the kingdom, Elsa catches a cold and by sneezing she creates a small snowman with every sneeze. These little rascals make it almost impossible for the gang to create perfect party because they mess around with decorations and with everything else. Elsa takes Anna on and adventure while Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf deal with organizations of the party and dealing with the snowman. Anna convinces Elsa to rest after she nearly fell of a Clock Tower, and while she enjoys her party, she sneezes giant snowball which was able to stun Hans who was overseas. At the end of the movie, Ann takes care of Elsa while Kristoff, Sven and Olaf escort snowman’s to Elsa’s ice castle where they are greeted by Marshmallow who is giant snow doorkeeper.

Conclusion

Frozen was directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. Peter Del Vecho and John Lasseter (Executive Director) were in charge of production. The story was written by Chris Buck (story), Jennifer Lee (story and screenplay), and Shane Morris (story). The leading voice actors were Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Santino Fontana. Christophe Beck created the music which was the central part of this animated spectacle, songs were written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez in cooperation with Demi Lovato.
