The main event of the Extreme Rules pay per view this Sunday is going to determine who is going to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Champion. Even though many people were counting out Balor as the winner here, there are reasons why he can be the one to stand tall at the end of this event as the new number one contender.
There are reports saying that the company still wants to do Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman at the Summerslam pay per view and that this feud for the Great Balls of Fire will be a short one for Brock Lesnar. Since it is going to be a one-and-done match, The Beast Incarnate is going to win the battle and move on to the Monster Amongst Men.
That means Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns likely won’t win this match as they are not somebody that the company wants just to feed to the Beast Incarnate. Bray Wyatt just doesn’t seem built up enough while Samoa Joe is likely going to be feuding with Rollins.
Balor just perfectly matches somebody that the company would put against Brock Lesnar just to say that they have given him the shot and that they can get that over with. He has already been in a segment with Heyman which is also a good sign that he is going to be the winner.
The one that is going to stand tall here is someone that company believes in, but not to the degree of Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins. That is why Finn Balor fits in this story nicely as the winner.
