It has been 70 years since the Ferrari’s prancing horse first appeared in the world, and to celebrate its birthday, it has been decided to replace already great F12 Berlinetta, the top of the range representative. Ferrari’s choice was almost obvious, and the model to replace Berlinetta is the mighty Ferrari 812 Superfast.
If you try to compare f12 Berlinetta to the Superfast, you will find out that although the Superfast is heavier and in a way bigger car, it is faster in 0-100 km/h race, mostly because it packs a stronger engine, but it is not all about the power. So we decided to compare Ferrari 812 Superfast with something that has the same performance numbers. The task of defending Berlinetta’s title is given to its stronger derivate, limited edition Ferrari F 12tdf. So let’s see if Superfast is what we expect to see.
Ferrari F12tdf is, in fact, the limited edition derivated from regular F12, which was fastest road car ever by brand until LaFerrari appeared. Under the engine cover, F12tdf packs a massive 6.3-liter V12 powerplant, which produces 780 BHP when the engine is spinning at 8,500 rpm. The maximum revs per minute with the limiter used is 8,900, and the maximum torque which the engine can produce is at about 6,250 rpm where it offers healthy 705 Nm.
The huge beating heart of the F12tdf can propel it from 0-100 KPH in 2,9 seconds, and from 0-200 KPH in just 7,9. The task of transferring the massive power from the engine to the wheels of F12tdf is taken by the 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. Definitely not the most important specification for the Ferrari buyer is the fuel consumption, and F12tdf can eat up to 15,4 liters traveling 100km in a combined driving cycle.
Also, to make the car as safe as it can be Italian supercar maker equipped this model with a number of electronic safety systems, like the high-performance ESC (Electronic Stability Control), High-performance ABS and F1 Traction control. The overall dimensions of this vehicle are 4656 mm in length and 1961 mm in width, and the weight distribution is done perfectly for the rear wheel drive car, 46% to the front and 54% to the rear.
On the other hand, Ferrari 812 Superfast is a different car in all. Although the overall looks and dimensions of the two vehicles are similar, the engine and weight distribution are different, making the two totally different beasts. In the Ferrari, it is all about the details, and the small change is making a lot of difference in performance, so I could mention that the 812 Superfast is one millimeter longer than the F 12tdf, and about 10 millimeters wider.
The main difference is the engine and the Superfast packs the bigger one. Both powerplants have the V12 layout, but the one that powers Ferrari 812 Superfast has the capacity of 6.5 liters and produces huge 800 horses when spinning at 8,500 rpm. The maximum torque is higher too, 718 Nm at 7,000 rpm. No matter the stronger powerplant, performance of the both vehicles are the same, and just like F12tdf, the heavier 812 Superfast will take you from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and has the confirmed top speed of over 340 km/h. The weight distribution is a little different from the F12tdf, and it is 47% to the front and 53% to the rear for the 812 Superfast.
Finally, which one is better? Well, the best way to find out is to sit in each of them and choose yourself, but unfortunately, not many people will have that chance.
