Tom Cruise recently finished a new film, and it should hit US cinemas on September 29th, but you probably know that by now. The movie is called American Made, and it has an incident tied to it that happened sometime in September 2015. If you didn’t know, during the filming of this movie two pilots died in a plane crash, and now their families are seeking someone to blame, and Tom Cruise is one of those on the list, among others.
Thanks to the news that came from People Reports, we found out that the director of this movie, Doug Liman, as well as Tom himself actually wanted a “high-risk, action-packed motion picture.” It further continues by saying that “lapses in planning, coordinating, scheduling, and flight safety that were the Defendant’s responsibility resulted in an unqualified and unprepared pilot being pressed into service for a dangerous flight in a vintage aircraft across an unfamiliar mountain pass in bad weather.” To make the things even more interesting and weird as well, it seems that the families of the deceased pilots Alan Purwin and Carlos Berl are also suing each other for the crash, while Berl family is suing the pilot who was injured in the incident but survived. Unfortunately, Jimmy Lee Garland, third pilot, that survived, no longer has feeling in his lower body.
We also managed to find out that some additional scenes of the movie were added in the last minute which resulted in pilots being unprepared for those and without proper training to handle all the new situations. It is also important to mention that some of those last minute scenes demanded to be shot in some harsh and dangerous weather conditions. One more important thing to note is that neither Cruise nor Liman were named as defendants in the lawsuit, but they sure have been described as “negligent.” According to the rest of the lawsuit, Tom Cruise is definitely experienced enough pilot, prompting a question why he wasn’t the one flying the plane that crashed.
