Social networking giant Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is all set to change the expectation that its regular users have about its notifications tab. It is all set to reimage the staid tab which lists recent activities related to your account “into a robust mini-news hub.”
The impending change in the notification tab of globe’s premier networking site was first red flagged by analyst at Mashable. They have reported that the Menlo Park based firm has been testing out the new notification tab for the past few weeks. The new tab will feature as a one stop shop for all popular content and updates which are processed from across the wider Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) eco system.
Mashable has authenticated this news from official sources within the social media firm who is said to have commented that, “We are testing an updated Notifications tab that adds additional, relevant content about everything that might be helpful to know on a particular day.” The official roll out of this newly designed tab is to first benefit its users in U.S main land. It would then be rolled out to rest of the globe as per the report. The actual dates of the roll out are not yet officially announced.
The new notification tab is said to feature eight separate drop down buckets like Birthdays and Life events, Public and private Events , Nearby places , Trending topics, Today in the past, Nearby friends and News Shared Locally.
Through the introduction of this new notifications tab, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) aims to further monetize its user base. For example, the “Nearby places” tab will list out three nearby restaurants to the user depending on the user location and time of the day.
This featuring of restaurants could evolve into a separate revenue generation engine once advertisers start to appreciate the reach of this notification tab. During the testing period, users have been provided with an option to customize the sections which show up on the reworked notifications tab.
