Make-A-Wish B.C. & Yukon organized a so-called “wish assist,” which means helping a lot of fans from Europe and USA come to Vancouver, where Johnson is filming an action movie Skyscraper.
Murat is 19 and came from the Netherlands. Emily is 16 and traveled from New Jersey, while Maria is 15 and flew in from Spain.
“Our chapter assists with some of the logistics involved in these wishes. That’s one of the great things about Make-A-Wish,” said Stuart Chase, director of marketing and communications with Make-A-Wish B.C. & Yukon. “It’s a grassroots mission — grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions — but we can work together as a global network to help make wishes come true.”
Johnson is super excited, as he is dressed up in a bloody blouse and a “Dwanta Claus” hat. He published a video on his Instagram about the visit.
He wrote: “So excited about our big Make-A-Wish day tomorrow, Tuesday. I cannot wait. I am honoured that I’m the wish of these very special young adults, kids, that are coming in.”
He assured the fans that the set of Skyscraper would feel like they’re at Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.
In a follow-up video, he also said: “We’re going to have an amazing day. I can’t wait to see you guys.”
Chase indicated how very grateful the foundation is to all the stars who make an effort to try and fulfill the kids’ dreams.
He said: “There is impact in a wish for a child, well beyond the in-the-moment experience of meeting one of their idols. The joy the kids will take away from their wish day can help carry them through the difficulties of the critical illness they face, well into the future.” He also added: “We know that celebrities have incredibly tight timelines to work on their projects, and it’s really special that they find time to meet wish kids. It truly does make a difference to these young lives.”
The fans are really lucky that Johnson has been noticed around Vancouver quite often. One time, he stopped to greet the University of B.C. students and managed to bring one young woman to tears.
He is extremely popular around the locals, as Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson announced October 19 Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Day of the city.
He posted on his Twitter: “And big thanks @TheRock + team for making #Skyscraper movie in #Vancouver. 3000+ people working on set this week – phenomenal!”
