Dwayne Johnson has played a lot of roles in his acting career and now he will play a role he has always desired. He will be King Kamehameha in the upcoming film that will be directed by Robert Zemeckis, who helmed Forrest Gump and Back to the Future.
Johnson wrote about this on Instagram, saying that he has always wanted to be in the role of the legendary king.
“Humbled & grateful to begin this once in a lifetime journey,” Johnson wrote on Instagram after news came out. “King Kamehameha – the legendary King was the first to unite the warring Hawaiian islands — fulfilling the prophecy that surrounded his fabled life since birth and creating the powerful & spiritual 50th state as we know it today.”
He continued, “From the day I began my Hollywood career (2001), my dream was to bring this legacy to life. In Polynesian culture, we have a belief, that something isn’t done when it’s ready… it’s done when it’s right. The time is right. The one who walks alone.”
Johnson had a similar role when he voiced demigod Maui in Moana. The actor pays tribute to his culture whenever the opportunities allow him and he even has several Samoan tattoos over his chest back and arms.
This movie is yet another project in Johnson’s busy schedule. He is currently working on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, but Jumanji 2 is announced which means that he will devote himself to that once more. Furthermore, he has decided to do a Fast and Furious spinoff titled Hobbs and Shaw and let’s not forget about a movie Black Adam. And there will be more roles for the Hollywood actor in the future.
