David Sandberg’s movie Shazam is only slowly getting closer to its release date (April 2019), and fans are already getting impatient to learn as much as possible about the upcoming adventure. When it comes to the cast, you probably remember that for some time we all believed that we would get to see Dwayne The Rock Johnson in the lead role. However, the actor claims that Black Adam is still in his bones and that he would rather portray this character than Shazam.
When asked about this decision, Johnson said: “What made me choose Black Adam? I just felt Black Adam was inherently more interesting to me because I felt there were more layers to Black Adam, starting out as a slave and then ultimately becoming the anti-hero who we enjoy today.”
Another important piece of information that the actor revealed is that Adam Sztykiel would be in charge of writing the script for Black Adam movie. Namely, a couple of days ago, The Rock posted on his Twitter: “Excited to expand the DC Universe w/ writer Adam Sztykiel (co-wrote @rampagethemovie) and bring this complex & gritty anti-hero to the big screen. This character’s in my bones. Ruthless code.” He also added: “Yeah bud, you’re right but such is our business with writers. Adam’s POV of the Black Adam/DCEU universe was extremely impressive. Great take. Plus he was a great collaborator on Rampage.”

It’s interesting to pay attention to the way Johnson refers to Black Adam in his tweet – as an anti-hero instead of calling him a supervillain, which he is in the first place. Judging by that, we can only conclude that the actor was not lying when he said how important the character was to him.
In addition to Black Adam, it has also been rumored that Johnson will make an appearance in the upcoming Suicide Squad 2. That’s all we know for now, so stay tuned for more news.
