Die Hard – Walking Down Memory Lane

2A Good Day to Die Hard – 2013

The last one in the franchise is unlike any other Die Hard movie and like any other action film. Directed by John Moore and written by Skip Woods, this installment followed John McClane and his son Jack to Moscow. The idea was that John’s son is kidnapped, and McClane had to save him, but this was not the first thing the writer had in mind.

Original Idea

Woods had to change the script draft because he intended to get McClane’s son killed. That was supposed to be the reason why John decided to go to Russia, but this was considered “too dark” so they opted for something that was more crowd-pleasing. However, Willis had disagreements with Woods because he didn’t quite like the story nor the dialogue and he would change it often, offering suggestions that were not in the script.

No Die-Hard Elements

This was the worst Die Hard film of all and for a reason. First of all, it was the shortest – it ran for 97 minutes while the previous installments were over two hours long. Secondly, it was all about the explosions and stunts, while great dialogues, excellent story-telling and some other details that made previous movies great, lacked.
