As you all probably know, a new Terminator movie is in production, and it is set to hit theaters in 2019. But, we have found out that there will be some changes in the production team. According to Deadline, having achieved great success with “Deadpool” Tim Miller will be directing the upcoming Terminator reboot, as well. James Cameron, who created Terminator back in 1984, “is godfathering a new iteration of the film,” as Deadline put it.
“Cameron, whose copyright reversion happens 35 years after the release of the 1984 classic, is in early talks with Deadpool director and VFX wiz Tim Miller to direct a reboot and conclusion of one of cinema’s great science fiction tales,” Deadline reports.
Furthermore, they say that such turn of events could be expected in a way. Here’s why: “Much the way that Sony used to rush Spider-Man movies to stay ahead of a rights-reversion ticking clock, it was always known that Cameron would regain clout eventually.”
The last released installment of the Terminator franchise was “Terminator Genisys” which came out two years ago. The movie was not that successful, as it grossed $440 million worldwide and only $90 million in the US. It was the first Hollywood release in this franchise which earned less than $100 million in North America. We hope the new entry will be far better than that.
Dana Goldberg, the movie producer, said in October last year that they would do their best to make the new installment better: “[We will use] data and research to do a worldwide study and really talk to audiences about what they loved, and what maybe didn’t work for them, so that the next step we take with the franchise is the right one.”
For the time being, there is still no news about the movie cast members, but it is likely that Arnold Schwarzenegger will come back.
