What you probably do not know is that the Deadpool movie had its bumps before it was filmed. These bumps were mostly tied to Ryan Reynolds and just how well he is capable of playing the character of Deadpool. Ryan’s performance as Wade Wilson (pre-Deadpool) in X-Men Origins Wolverine (2009) was very good and very well received but somewhere after the movie Green Lantern (2011), which was torn to shreds by critics and most movie buffs, Fox just wasn’t too confident about the idea of an R-rated Deadpool movie that was scripted by Reese and Wernick made.
Thanks to Reese, Wernick, and Ryan that never gave up on the script we received the masterpiece that was Deadpool. Apparently, they kept going back to the script and each and every time refined it a little until they managed to fight out a green light for it. The sequel, on the other hand, will not be that generous and they will not have the same luxury like with the first one, but they’re not worried about it. When they were asked what’s the latest info regarding the Deadpool 2 script – “We’re very close to a draft that we’ll go off and shoot in a couple of months, and we couldn’t be more thrilled” Wernick stated to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to him the second installment of Deadpool will hit the theaters in 2018, but a definite date has not been set. Naturally, we wanted to know does that lack of release date takes any pressure off them, and Reese told that “We don’t want to put the cart before the horse, and often times with release dates that happens.” He also added “You end up racing and you end up being forced to do something you’re not happy with and the great thing about Deadpool is we spent a career trying to duck other movies. “How do we get off the release date of this or that?”
He continued by saying: “I think in most cases, people are going to have to duck us. Fox is probably going to be able to drop that thing on a date and everyone else is going to scatter, because no one will want to come out the same weekend … our feeling is it’s all about the movie. The fact that Deadpool came out in February and did as well as it did, and you are seeing similarly the summer [movie season] start earlier in March, and movies succeed in October and so the date to us doesn’t mean as much as it used to. I think the studio feels the same way. We just want to make the best movie possible and Deadpool will find an audience, we feel at this point.”
As we already reported on the topic – the Deadpool 2 will be directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde) and written by two masterminds Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese is as of now in pre-production and is expected to begin filming at the end of this spring. The Deadpool 2 is also going to introduce something new, and it will come in the form of Deadpool’s time-traveling mutant partner, Cable, as well as X-Force member Domino (played by Zazie Beetz). There are some returns from the first part that are expected to happen, and those will be Colossus (voiced by Stefan Kapicic), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and taxi driver Dopinder (Karan Soni).
