One of the most highly-anticipated movies at the moment, the sequel to last year’s blockbuster Deadpool is scheduled to hit theaters next summer, so the crew has been working hard on the set for quite some time. They were all happy with the filming and everything seemed to be going great until Monday when a tragic event stopped the shooting and made everyone devastated. SJ Harris, one of the stuntwomen died after a motorcycle accident which took place during the filming.
Ryan Reynolds, David Leitch, and the rest of the Deadpool 2 crew offered their sincere condolence to Harris’s family and close ones. “We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of ‘Deadpool 2’ this morning. Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends, and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time,” a 20th Century Fox studio spokesperson said. As eyewitnesses claim, Harris managed to perform the stunt successfully more than once before the tragic accident happened. Her death is still under investigation.
SJ Harris was the first African-American woman to take the role of a professional road racer and her job as a stuntwoman in Deadpool 2 was her first and, sadly, the last such job ever. According to her manager Porsche Taylor, Harris was highly excited about the project. “Once she got on the track, she fell in love with it. And she was surprised that there weren’t very many women who were racing and no women of color, or no African-American women, in particular. She was excited to be able to break some new ground,” Taylor recalled.
After her tragic death, they stopped filming the sequel, but now they seem to be back on track. It has been reported that Deadpool 2 shooting resumed on Wednesday under the Granville Street Bridge.
