“Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru no Darō ka?”, better known under the English title “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” or simply “Danmachi” is a Japanese light novel series which received a spin-off novel series titled “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Sword Oratoria” in 2014, only one year after its first publication. Now, the spin-off has served as a source of inspiration for making an anime adaptation.
According to SB Creative’s GA Bunko, the upcoming title will be available in April 2017. It has been reported that the anime will shift the focus from Bell Cranel to Aiz Wallenstein, the Sword Princess. Aiz comes from the Loki Familia, whose member she became at the age of seven, and she is known as the fastest adventurer for quite some time until Bell managed to outdo her at some point. Not only does she build her reputation as being one of the quickest and strongest female characters, but, more often than not, she is praised for her extraordinary beauty, as well.
Based on what we know and things about which the light novel revolves around, we can guess more or less what we can expect to see in the anime. The story follows Aiz’s exploration of certain mysteries on the 50th floor, where she is accompanied by other adventurers. At the same time, Bell is also in the Dungeon, trying to run away from a Minotaur who pursues him. That way the two of them meet. As for the anime, it will also depict Aiz’s mission, but, as already mentioned, Aiz herself will receive more attention than Bell.
All in all, we can only say that Fujino Ōmori‘s achieved great success with his Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? novel series, because it inspired various adaptations, including the upcoming title, as well as a new video game which is still in development.
