2Defensive Corps

Dallas Cowboys had one of the better defensive units just a year ago, but some of these players had expensive contracts, so the management decided to rebuild and let the players walk out in free agency. A lot of things can change in one year, and that is what happened to the Dallas defense.

The Cowboys have young players on the defensive end this year, most of which are rookies or second-year players. DeMarcus Lawrence, Maliek Collins and David Irving are all 25 or younger, and the only players who are 30 and 31 are Orlando Scandrick and Sean Lee, respectively. With the young squad and players such as Taco Charlton, Jaylon Smith and Awuzie, Dallas’ defense will keep getting better year after year. So far, the problems with defense, especially with secondary have been apparent. Moreover, most of the drafted players have failed to live to the expectations.

To make the matter worse, the defensive squad keeps struggling with the injuries. The good thing is that the core consists of young players who are likely to stay by 2024, but it would not be surprising to see Dallas trade some of them to bring at least one elite defender to the team.
