Male cheerleaders may be something we are not used to, but they will entertain the crowds in the future. According to several reports, the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams will pioneer male cheerleading squads. Currently, we cannot even guess how many men will be in the team.
Surely this is going to become a trend, but will Dallas Cowboys follow? At this point, we cannot tell for sure, but we will let you know as soon as we find out. The Cowboys cheerleading squad has been known for excellence and marketability that was very well used over the last few decades.
Every member of the cheerleading squad needs to be able to execute a full split, which is performed as a group at the 50-yard line, before the first snap. The process to make the team is strict so it remains to be seen which men will make the squad if it is to be formed.
In recent years, there has been a debate in the league whether or not the cheerleaders are receiving fair wages. Former Cowboys cheerleader Erica Wilkins sued the team because the mascot of the team earned much more than she did. Wilkins spent time in Dallas from May 2014 to August 2017 and filed the suit in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas. According to Wilkins, the team violated The Equal Pay Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
“Wilkins’ earnings in 2014 were 5,817.99; in 2015 she earned 12,381.09; in 2016 she earned $16,516.01 and in 2017 she earned $8,424.66. During the same period, Rowdy earned about $65,000 a year, the lawsuit alleges,” star-telegram reports.
The Cowboys are playing the Saints, one of the teams that plan to add men to their cheerleading squad, but America’s Team will face them at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, so, unfortunately, we will not see male cheerleaders.
