It was Romo’s third season as a starting quarterback, and big changes occurred. The organizations showed the door to Owens, Johnson, and Jones, whereas Kevin Burnett, Keith Davis, and Chris Canty left in free agency. In late 2009, Dallas was 8-5 when they were facing the Super Bowl contenders – the New Orleans Saints. They somehow managed to beat the team from New Orleans, and Romo and the Cowboys finished the season as the NFC East champs.
The playoff run was short, and even though they won against the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild-card round, they got hammered by the Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional round. The win over the Eagles was important because it was the first in the playoffs for America’s Team since 1996.
